Rain?
Now that I'm working 52 hours a week it is becoming increasing difficult to get
in any mushroom hunting. That hasn't been a big issue yet as we have received so
little rain here that there is almost no point in heading into the woods. I wonder
how much damage the drought is doing to infrastructure that exists in the top foot
of topsoil? Are we looking at another poor morel harvest next year? Hmmm.
But it's not dry everywhere. We took a trip up to Lake Erie this weekend and up
north things are looking greener.
Remember that our monthly meeting is Tuesday at pm at Beechwood Farms:
Beginner Mushroom ID Part 1: Mostly Gilled by John Plischke III, Club
Mycologist & Walk and Foray Chair This slide show will cover both edible and
non edible mushrooms, many of which one is likely to encounter in the woods. The
program is arranged into groups of mushrooms and often with an edible mushroom then
one or more of its look-alikes. Some mushrooms features, such as spore print, gills,
habitat and edibility will be discussed. Some of the more popular covered groups
include: Agaricus, Amanita, Lepiota, and Armillaria.
